Local tournament recommendations — South East England

Looking to enter my first local tournament. I've only ever played club matches and want to get a feel for competitive play without travelling too far. South East England ideally — Surrey, Berkshire, Hampshire area. What's a good starter event? Any tips for first-timers on what to expect?
