How do you actually find players at your level nearby: clubs, WhatsApp groups, league contacts, apps, or just turning up and asking?

League contacts and club captains have been the most reliable for me. One good organiser usually knows who is looking for level-matched games.

Turning up consistently worked better than apps for me. After two or three weeks people start pulling you into the right games.
