If you are facing a big smasher in singles, here is how to neutralise their power: 1. Keep your lifts tight to the backline - a short lift is a smash invitation 2. Use flat drives to keep the shuttle at net tape height 3. Push them to their backhand corner - most players smash weaker from there 4. Stand further back when you expect a smash to give yourself more reaction time 5. Block returns are your friend - just angle the racket and let their power do the work Remember: the harder they smash, the faster it comes back if you block well.

Number 5 is a game changer. I used to try to counter-smash and always lost. Just blocking with good angles works so much better.

Would add: use deceptive net shots to draw them forward. Big smashers often have weaker net games because they prefer to attack from the back.
