The number one thing that separates good doubles pairs from average ones is rotation. Here's the simple rule:\n\n**Attacking (shuttle going DOWN) = Front and Back**\nOne player at the net looking for kills, one at the back providing the power. The back player smashes, the front player intercepts weak returns.\n\n**Defending (shuttle going UP) = Side by Side**\nBoth players level, each covering half the court. You're trying to return the shuttle and get back to attacking formation.\n\n**The transition**\nThe tricky part is the switch between formations. Key principle: the player who hits the shuttle UP moves to the side. The player who hits it DOWN moves to the front.\n\nCommon mistake: both players staying side-by-side when they should be attacking. If your partner smashes, GET TO THE NET!\n\nAnyone want to share their doubles tips?

Excellent breakdown Priya. I'd add: communication is everything. Call "mine" or "yours" early. The gap between two hesitating players is where shuttles land. In coaching I always say: a wrong decision made confidently is better than no decision at all.

At our club we do a drill where we play games but you HAVE to switch formation after every shot. Really exaggerated, but it teaches you the movement patterns. After a few weeks it becomes automatic. Highly recommend for any doubles pair trying to improve!
