As a stringer, I get asked "which string should I use?" almost daily. Here's my quick guide:\n\n**For beginners (BG65)**\nDurable, forgiving, affordable. String at 22-24 lbs. Don't overthink it at this stage.\n\n**For intermediate players wanting more feel (BG80)**\nThinner gauge, better repulsion. String at 24-26 lbs. Good balance of power and control.\n\n**For power players (Aerobite)**\nHybrid string - thicker mains, thinner crosses. Great for smashers who want that extra bite. 25-27 lbs.\n\n**For control players (BG66 Ultimax)**\nThin gauge with excellent feel. Good for net players and touch shots. Be warned - breaks faster.\n\n**For doubles specialists (Nanogy 99)**\nGood repulsion with decent durability. The sweet spot for doubles play where you need quick exchanges.\n\nGeneral rule: Higher tension = more control, less power. Lower tension = more power, less control.\n\nDon't go above 27 lbs unless you have very clean technique - you'll get tennis elbow.\n\nHappy to answer any string questions!

I switched from BG65 to Aerobite last month and the difference in my smash is noticeable. The cross strings really grip the shuttle. Ray, what tension do you recommend for Aerobite for someone who smashes a lot?
RC
For Aerobite with heavy smashing, I'd suggest 26 lbs mains / 27 lbs crosses. The slightly higher cross tension gives you that extra snap on smashes while keeping the sweet spot forgiving enough for rallies. But honestly, experiment between 25-27 and find what feels right for you.

Ray, do you offer stringing services? Looking for someone reliable in West London. Last place I went to did a terrible job - uneven tension and the grommets were cracked after.
